The Radiation Oncology Department is part of the Institute of Oncology and one of the largest in Israel. We are known internationally for our exceptional clinical Cancer care. Our mission is to
- Provide the highest possible quality of care for our Cancer patients using a complete range of state of the art, modern, Radiotherapy treatments in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere.
- Provide a patient-orientated service including general patient advice, diet and pain management and complementary medical services.
- Train the next generation of doctors, physicists and Radiotherapy technicians who are needed to provide world-class Radiotherapy care throughout Israel.
- Be at the forefront of clinical and laboratory research in order to participate in improving the cure of Cancer patients, and in reducing the side effects of therapy.
Our department is fortunate to be endowed with cutting edge equipment. We have three linear accelerators that are equipped with On-Line Portal Imaging (EPI) which can provide continuous radiographic monitoring of patients during treatment. A high dose rate Brachytherapy unit has been in use for the last 5 years and has recently been upgraded to allow full 3 dimensional CT or MRI based Brachytherapy planning. We are also implementing a program of radioactive seed implants for Prostate Cancer. Our Brain Lab stereotactic irradiation system has been expanded and now includes a Micro Multileaf Collimator with updated software enabling delivery of dynamic arc radiosurgery and Fractionated Stereotactic Irradiation for precision delivery of high dose radiation to brain tumors.
Department Services We are a tertiary referral center and provide Radiotherapy for the entire range of clinical indications. Our conformal external beam radiation program includes head and neck Cancers, brain tumors, Lung Cancer, Pancreatic Cancer and Prostate Cancer.
We perform total body irradiation treatment for Bone Marrow transplantation.
Stereotactic irradiation or radiosurgery is provided for circumscribed malignant and benign brain tumors, (e.g. Brain Metastases, Acoustic Neuroma, Skull Base Meningioma) and Arterio-Venous malformations. Fractionated stereotactic irradiation is used for larger benign lesions particularly in children.
High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy is offered for Gynecological Cancer, obstructive Lung Cancer and head & neck (tongue) Cancer. We are developing a unique program of HDR Brachytherapy for Prostate Cancer using interventional MR imaging for implant placement and also offer conventional ultrasound based radioactive seed implants for Prostate Cancer.
