The Department of Internal Medicine A is a general inpatient ward that also services patients with acute intoxications, endocronoligical disorders, and coagulation defects as part of the department's association with the Anticoagulation Clinic and the Institute of Hemophilia and Coagulation. We maintain two special outpatient projects. One is the Institute for Medical Check-Ups and the second involves the periodic medical evaluation of drug addicts.
Our main research activities include:
- Clinical and basic studies of Anticoagulant Therapy, complication and their treatment.
- Pharmacokinetics of drugs in specific patient populations - Intensive Care Unit.
- Clinical studies of various genetic endocrine diseases.
- Another main research interest is the incorporation of patients' subjective perspectives into medical-decision making at the various levels of the patient-physician interaction.
These include decisions for individual patients, decisions for specific patient populations and generic comparisons for the purpose of health policy. Thus, we hope to maintain and enhance patient autonomy and individuality, incorporating these values into the medical process in a structured nature, to increase awareness of problems such as depressive symptoms, and to identify weak populations that need more support from the health care system such as elderly people and minorities.
