The Ella Institute for Treatment and Research of Melanoma and Skin Cancer
The Ella Institute is a center of knowledge and excellence, implementing some of the world's most advanced and unique treatment methodologies for melanoma and skin cancer, operating within the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer.
The services of the Institute are available to patients and their families from the moment the disease is discovered, providing knowledge to patients on the stages of treatment and the procedures they would undergo, and ensuring a suitable and effective treatment for every patient, according to their condition and personal record.
The Ella Institute operates in collaboration with leading medical centers in the area of melanoma treatment worldwide, including the National Institute of Health (NIH) in The Unites States of America. The Institute incorporates advanced treatment methodologies with scientific and clinical research which is on going in the advanced research laboratories of the Institute. The Institute offers to patients the most extensive and effective treatment range, including enrollment in advanced clinical trials in the field of melanoma treatment.
The Institute operates within the Oncology Division of Sheba, directed by Professor Rafael Catane and the Cancer Research Center directed by Professor Gidi Rechavi, both world renowned leading cancer scientists..
Sheba Medical Center operates two unique clinics for the treatment of melanoma:
The Ella Institute Clinic
The clinic is designated for patients diagnosed with melanoma, beginning from the initial diagnostic stage and first line treatment. The patient is examined and evaluated by the doctors of the Institute, and referred for the treatment best suited for his condition, as detailed in the chapter on ‘treatment of melanoma'.
The Ella Institute currently offers advanced treatments, including the cutting edge treatment available for metastatic melanoma. This treatment, known as Cellular Immunotherapy, has been developed by the NIH laboratories in the USA, and is successfully implemented at the Sheba Medical Center since 2004. Although this treatment is still considered experimental, its encouraging results have been reported in the scientific literature, and The Ella Institute is the second and only center outside of the USA where this treatment is provided.
Director of The Ella Institute, Dr. Jacob Schachter, Deputy Director of the Oncology Division at Sheba.
For an appointment at The Ella Institute Clinic, please fax your medical background, along with personal and contact details.
The Institute personnel will contact you shortly.
Fax number for personal details and background: 972-3-5304934.
Further information is available at the clinic, by telephone: 03-5304907, or by email: Osnat.Suliman@sheba.health.gov.il.
Pigmentary Lesions Clinic
The clinic specializes in computerized diagnosis of potentially malignant afflictions. The clinic periodically monitors and documents all body moles and allows for early detection of changes which could indicate the development of melanoma. Based on the decision of the doctors, the clinic also performs dermoscopy, which enables the examination of the deeper skin layers, without the need for surgery.
We recommend that all people found in a high risk category to develop melanoma (many moles or freckles, very light skin, a family history of melanoma) would undergo regular checkups either by their General Practitioner, Dermatologist, or at the Sheba Clinic for Pigmantation Diagnosis.
Further information is available at the clinic, by telephone: 03-5305275/7, or by email: pigment@sheba.health.gov.il.
