The Retina Service at the Goldschleger Eye Institute, which has six retina specialists, offers
advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services for vitreous and retinal diseases.
We have a large outpatient clinic treating conditions such as age related Macular
Degeneration (AMD), Diabetic Retinopathy, branch and central Retinal Vein Occlusions, and
many other retinal diseases.
The clinic offers diagnostic services as well including Ultrasound, Fluorescein Angiography
, Indocyanine Green Angiography, Optical Coherence Tomography, and Retinal Blood Flow
measurements. Laser surgery for conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal holes,
retinal vain occlusions and other indications is performed daily for patients referred from
all over the country.
Vitreoretinal surgery is performed in the operating rooms that reside in the Eye Institute,
and encompasses all types of modern vitreoretinal procedures available today, including
Retinal Detachment, Macular Holes, Epiretinal Membranes, Vitreous Hemorrhage and traction
detachment from Diabetic Retinopathy, complicated Trauma cases, Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy,
Pneumatic Retinopexy, and others.
The Retina Service is a very active service, with more than 50 outpatient visits per day and
a very busy daily surgical schedule. The service's surgeons perform all types of modern
vitreoretinal surgical procedures. Many civilian and military Trauma cases are referred to
our hospital, most of them for complicated vitreoretinal procedures.
Typical ailments managed at this service include medical and surgical retinal conditions.
The common medical retinal problems referred to the service include age-related macular
degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, occlusion of arterial and venous retinal vessels, eye
tumors, and hereditary retinal conditions. Diagnostic modalities including Electroretinography
, Fluorescein and Indocyanine Green (ICG) Angiographies, Ultrasound, and Optical Coherence
Tomography (OCT) are available. Laser treatment of all retinal conditions is performed
routinely at the outpatient clinic. In the last years, Photodynamic Therapy has become the
leading treatment modality for age-related macular degeneration.
The common surgical retinal conditions managed at the operating theatres of the department
include Retinal Detachment, complications of Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Hole, Epiretinal
Membrane, eye Trauma and others. |
