Oral Cancer affects about 4% of cancer patients. The typical patient is in the fifth decade of life and is usually a smoker.
The most common tumor, the Squamous Cell Carcinoma, is a highly malignant tumor that requires primary surgical treatment with Adjuvant Therapy of Radiation and Chemotherapy.
The treatment of the patients requires functional and esthetical reconstruction as well.
The Oral Oncological Surgery Clinic was established in 1988 as a multidisciplinary clinic, composed of senior maxillofacial surgeons who work in close cooperation with the E.N.T. Head and Neck Unit, the Oncology Department, the Plastic and Microvascular Unit and the Oral Rehabilitation Unit.
As the largest maxillofacial department in Israel and as a referral center, about 200 oncological procedures of tumor ablations and reconstruction were performed (including primary microvascular surgery).
The patients are closely followed throughout their life by the unit's staff. The clinic also provides consultation and treatment for the Israeli Defense Forces. The clinic works in close cooperation with specialists from the department of oral pathology and oral medicine at Tel Aviv University.
