Even though congenital malformations are decreasing in frequency thanks to the standard pre-term diagnosis of fetuses made today, our ward still treats cleft lip and palate and microtia with good aesthetic and functional results. Our department has a long and extensive experience in the treatment of these malformations. Our multidisciplinary, combined approach insures good results that will secure a normal life, with follow-up through the years by the same experienced staff.

Cleft Lip and Palate
A monthly gathering of the team secures optimal treatment for each case that is discussed before any treatment if offered. The staff includes plastic surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, ortognatia specialists, a pediatrician, a communication clinician, social workers, and a psychologist. The team monitors the child and the family from the time the child is born through the diverse stages of development and surgery and, with the years, up to his maturation completing the different reconstructions.

Microtia
The department has a specialized team for reconstruction of the ear. Excellent results are achieved thanks to the experience of the team and the long-term follow-up of the patients treated in our ward. Surgery is performed at the age of 6-8 years. At this age, the ear reaches 85% of its final dimensions and the cartilage of the rib is big enough to suffice for reconstruction material. Reconstruction is done before any O.R.L surgeons are involved.

Vascular Malformations
This team includes prominent leaders in the field who are associated with the National Laser Center where all lasers needed for treatment of the whole gamut of these anomalies are available. Children are treated from birth to adulthood, and helped to cope with their social environment. The team includes imaging-interventional physicians who perform embolization of the malformation.
