In the past, chronic wounds were treated in the different wards of the hospital. In 2000 a multidisciplinary professional center was founded in collaboration with the Department of Plastic Surgery and the Rehabilitation Center. The Wound Healing Center's staff includes plastic surgeons, rehabilitation medical staff, nurses specialized in wound healing and care, dietitian, and physiotherapists.
Most of the work of the Wound Healing Center is concentrated in the Rehabilitation Center.
In the Wound Healing Center, patients are treated for pressure sores, venous and arterial insufficiency, chronic wounds, diabetic wounds, and post-traumatic wounds. In the outpatient clinics ambulatory conservation as well as surgical treatments is performed. Under hospitalization, devices such as vacuum systems or laser therapy complement surgical procedures. In addition, new drugs (enzymes like Trypsin) or biological treatment based on macrophages are applied. In the near future, we hope to provide a day surgery activity.
