The Department of General Surgery is a national leader in the use of the most advanced techniques to minimize the physical and mental impact of surgery and to reduce the length of hospitalization.
Our department is the leading service in Israel in advanced laparoscopic surgery. We use the Laparoscopy method in over 1000 cases annually for stomach, large and small bowel, adrenal, gall bladder and spleen resection. All types of hernia repair and operations for morbid obesity are performed laparoscopically.
We are the leading endocrine surgery service in minimally invasive parathyroid surgery. We perform around 100 parathyroid operations annually, and around 150 cases of thyroid operations for benign and malignant diseases. Adrenal surgery is performed exclusively by the laparoscopic technique. Response time from first visit to the clinic until diagnosis and surgery, when needed, is ultra-short.
We operate a comprehensive breast clinic twice a week. Our clinic offers programs for early detection of Breast Cancer, surveillance of high risk women, and follow up of Breast Cancer patients. Diagnostic services, such as surgical or needle biopsies, are available at short notice.
Our Colo-Rectal Surgery Service operates an outpatient clinic twice a week to treat patients with benign and malignant colon and rectum diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease. Most of the colonic resections are done laparoscopically. We use the most advanced technologies to treat Ano-rectal conditions, such as hemorrhoids, peri-anal fistulae, and anal fissure. Our team introduced the advanced technique of artificial bowel sphincters.
Our expertise and experience in complex hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery has made our department one of the leading services in the application of advanced laparoscopic surgery in a field that used to require extensive conventional surgery. Patients seeking treatment or advice can take advantage of our outpatient clinic, advanced imaging modalities, and our experienced surgical team led by a liver transplant surgeon.
We have a Kidney Transplant Program from cadavers as well as living related donors. With living donors, the kidney removal is performed laparoscopically reducing the length of hospital stay and level of discomfort.
Research and Teaching
The medical staff is involved in teaching of students and residents at the Tel Aviv University Sackler School of Medicine.
Various research projects, mainly in transplantation and tumor immunology, organ allocation, endocrine and laparoscopic surgery, are performed by our physicians (see publications).
