The OB/GYN Ultrasonic Imaging Unit works in four fields of activity.
The first is the prenatal diagnosis and cervical assessments. This includes: Sonoembryology at the first trimester, nuchal translucency studies, targeted organ survey at the early second trimester with an emphasis on transvaginal fetal echocardiography during 13-14 weeks of gestation, organ specific surveys involving multidisciplinary consultations and late second trimester organ surveys. Ultrasonic screening is performed in over 1000 pregnant women every year.
The second field of activity is Fetal Therapy which deals with assessment and Intrauterine Therapy of pathologies related to Fetal Anemia and Thrombocytopenia, intrauterine infection assessment, pathologies related to multi-fetal pregnancies including intrauterine laser ablation of vascular shunts causing twin to twin transfusion syndrome and selective fetal reduction.
The third, the gynecological patient pelvic assessment provides information by regular ultrasonic screening and non-invasive techniques such as Hydrosonography, on pelvic tumors, benign as well as malignant, extrauterine pregnancies, assessment of endometrial pathology and pelvic abscess diagnosis and drainage.
The fourth and last field of expertise is Ultrasonography in reproductive Endocrinology including assessment of the infertile female pelvis and follicular monitoring of the infertility patients (induction of ovulation and IVF). Invasive procedures include amniocentesis and percutaneous umbilical cord sampling procedures. |
