The Edmond and Lily Safra Children's Hospital has two general pediatric departments, Department B' - South, and Department B' - North, under the direction of Dr.Shai Padeh and Prof. Y. Bujanover, respectively.

The general pediatric departments are the central focus of the Edmond and Lily Safra Children's Hospital. Each department has a thirty bed patient occupancy. More than half of the patient admissions (4,000), as well as the activities of the subspecialty units, are coordinated by the pediatric departments. The annual occupancy rate is between 90-100%, and the average patient stay is 3 - 3.5 days.

Since the Edmond and Lily Safra Children's Hospital is considered a national center for Cystic Fibrosis and burn patients and a center for IBD as well, the departments are at present being expanded and renovated to conform to the special demands of these patient groups. This includes suitable facilities for hospitalization of young adults.

The Edmond and Lily Safra Children's Hospital has been declared a pain-free hospital, which means that every potentially painful procedure is performed with the aid and supervision of the Pediatric Anesthesiology Service.

The departments of pediatrics are the main teaching sites for residents and students. Morning rounds, ward rounds, journal club and post graduate courses, are all a part of the teaching activities that are organized by the departments and take place in the departments. Research is conducted under the direction of the directors and senior staff.
 
Fourth and fifth year Israeli and American students spend four to eight weeks in the departments.

The staff of each department includes residents, nurses and paramedical staff. The staff functions in collaboration with the different pediatric subspecialty units and other departments at the hospital.
