Peres: Olmert carrying the world on his shoulders
President visits rocket victims at Tel Hashomer hospital, says 'the situation is complicated and difficult and the Israeli government is doing everything it can to prevent rockets from being fired'
President Shimon Peres visited Israelis wounded by rockets and hospitalized at the Chaim Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer on Wednesday.
Among the wounded was Tair Afgin, the two-year-old from Ashkelon who was severely injured from a Grad rocket that hit the city's mall last week.
Standing beside Tair's bed the president said, "The situation is complicated and difficult, the Israeli government is doing everything it can to prevent rockets from being fired. I am not envious of the prime minister who is carrying the world on his shoulders." The doctors told Peres that the infant is currently suffering from nightmares. Afterwards, the president visited Tair's mother Avital who is hospitalized in moderate condition in the hospital's trauma unit.
Peres also visited 10-year-old Yossi Haimov of Sderot who was severely injured from a Qassam rocket three months ago. The president spoke to him saying, "You are your best doctor, if your mood stays positive you will come out of this, they told us that you have an outstanding personality." Haimov is currently undergoing recuperation at the hospital after receiving injuries mainly to his shoulder.
The president continued on to the room in which Osher Twito from Sderot is hospitalized. Osher's leg was amputated as a result of a Qassam that fell on him in February.
Peres told the eight-year-old boy that, "everyone loves him." Twito responded saying, "everyone loves me except for the Arabs." Peres answered, "If the Arabs knew who you are they would love you too, I am sure you will play soccer again."
