Hollywood Star John Lithgow Hosts L.A. Friends of Sheba Medical Center’s 47th Annual Gala
Celebrated actor John Lithgow emceed the L.A. Friends of Sheba Medical Center’s 47th annual gala event on October 15th at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, whose theme was “Embracing Our Future”. This year’s event focused on the innovative work that is performed on a daily basis at Sheba’s Department of Neonatology, as well as raising funds for the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Keynote speaker Dr. Tzipi Strauss, Director of Neonatology at Sheba Medical Center, discussed Sheba’s work in advancing neonatal care for the 11,000 babies who are born at the hospital on an annual basis, including those born prematurely or requiring intensive care treatment.
This year’s Laurel of Leadership Award was presented by John Lithgow to Shannon Massachi, an e-commerce entrepreneur. The Professor Mordechai Shani Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Ruth Flinkman-Marandy and Ben Marandy in recognition of their support for education, art, research, health, Israel and Sheba Medical Center.
The gala, which was co-chaired by philanthropists Robert and Beverly Cohen, drew over 700 guests including Marilyn Ziering, Max Webb, Soraya and Younes Nazarian, Stanley Black, Jean and Jerry Friedman, and Dina Leeds. The event was an enormous success, with significant funds raised to further advance the Neonatology division.
