23-05-2024

Great news comes in pairs: Anat Ben Dor, senior nurse in the orthopedic rehabilitation department, has been selected to light the "Torch of Healing" at this year’s Independence Day torch ceremony, together with other medical professionals and patients, and Danit Shahar Weizman, who coordinates Sheba’s organ transplant department, has been awarded the President’s Award for Excellence during a ceremony at the President's residence in Jerusalem.

Anat Ben Dor, a distinguished nurse with 35 years of service at Sheba’s rehabilitation hospital and an expert in orthopedic rehabilitation, has devoted her career to treating victims of war and military operations. Since the start of Operation Iron Swords, she has assisted hundreds of patients, many with severe and complex injuries, compassionately guiding them on their path to recovery.

“I am deeply moved and honored to represent everyone at Sheba, particularly our rehab and nursing teams, who dedicate their days and nights to treating the injured, saving lives, and supporting patient’s rehabilitation. For me and my colleagues, caring for these heroic patients is our calling and our privilege.”

“Privileged to help families of the fallen when they need it most.”

Danit Shahar Weizman, the coordinator of organ transplants at Sheba Medical Center, was honored with the prestigious President's Award of Excellence. Shahar Weizman, a nurse with 15 years of experience, was recognized for her work in preserving sperm from fallen soldiers for their families. The award was made during an awards ceremony, “Strength and Bravery in Operation Swords of Iron,” hosted by President Herzog to mark International Nurses Day.

The accolade recognizes Dana's unwavering dedication to the emotionally demanding and remarkable task of sperm retrieval from casualties, and her efforts have positioned Sheba as a pioneering center for the utilization of sperm from fallen IDF soldiers.

Danit Shahar Weizman expressed, "I considered it my moral responsibility to support the families whose sons went to battle and never returned. It's a privilege to stand by them in their darkest hours, helping their search for hope and a path forward."
