Pride for Sheba and the State of Israel: During the annual President's Excellence Award ceremony held last night (14.5), Dr. Akram Saad, an oncologist and pain medicine specialist at The Jusidman Cancer Center in Sheba, was awarded the President’s Award for Excellence.
Dr. Saad was doing a residency in London when Operation Swords of Iron erupted. He immediately headed back to Israel to join the reserves, serving as a battalion doctor in the north for 187 days. Despite getting injured, he returned to his duties.
Dr. Saad, a member of the Druze community who lost his father, Commander Fouad Saad, during the Tyre Disaster in 1982, spoke about the unique unit where Jews, Druze, and Bedouins serve side by side. He discussed his intensive service during the war, including “treating dozens of injuries from various incidents.”
