World First: Sheba launches AI-powered Emergency Room

ARC's groundbreaking project is set to bring major improvements to emergency medical care

30-04-2025

Sheba Medical Center, a global leader in medical innovation, is breaking new ground with the launch of “Project K”  - the world’s first AI-powered emergency room.  The project, a collaboration between Sheba's ARC innovation center, Microsoft Israel, and KPMG, marks a significant technological leap in the world of medicine.

How does "Project K" affect patient admissions in the emergency department?

"Project K" is transforming the way triage, patient intake, and medical care are managed in the ER. AI is leveraged to collect and analyze medical data to provide doctors with clear, accurate summaries, including interpretations and preliminary diagnoses. Future updates will integrate physiological indicators such as body temperature, blood pressure, and pulse.

With the new system, patients only need to share their medical history once. Patient information is analyzed instantly and presented to the doctor as a clear, accurate summary.  Benefits include:
● Reducing the workload on medical staff
● Improving the patient experience
● Shortening wait times
● Streamlining the medical decision-making process

Sheba Medical Center, recently ranked 8th among the best hospitals in the world, has set itself the goal of transforming healthcare with the power of artificial intelligence. By bringing together top medical professionals and cutting-edge AI technologies, Sheba aims to make processes smoother, improve patient experience, and bring the future of healthcare to life.

Prof. Yitshak Kreiss, Director of Sheba Medical Center: “The AI revolution has arrived, and Project K marks just the beginning. Our mission is to create advanced decision-support tools while training the next generation of physicians to seamlessly integrate human expertise with artificial intelligence. At Sheba, we’re at the forefront of this transformation which is going to reshape the future of medicine in Israel and beyond.”

Prof. Eyal Zimlichman, Deputy Director General for Artificial Intelligence, Transformation, and Innovation, and Director of ARC: "Project K is redefining how we do emergency medicine. AI-driven solutions hold immense potential to benefit the public, and at Sheba, we view them as indispensable tools to integrate across our organization. Our mission is to lead the use of AI in transforming healthcare."
