30-04-2025

Many Israelis struggle with overweight and obesity, finding it difficult to lose weight on their own. A new study currently underway at the Sheba Medical Center is seeking volunteers with a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 25 or higher. Participants must be over the age of 18.

How will the research be conducted?

The treatment involves either a study drug or a placebo, both administered through a subcutaneous injection by a nurse. Participants have a 66% chance of receiving the study drug and a 33% chance of receiving the placebo.

Volunteers will be invited to visit the Early Clinical Trials Unit at Sheba Medical Center at least 7 times over about a month and a half. The study’s treatment will be split into groups, with some receiving treatment once a week, others three times a week, and some daily.

During the visits to Sheba as part of the study, participants will be required to perform, among other things, blood and urine tests, ECG, body weight measurements, and waist circumference measurements. Financial compensation will be provided to all participants.

Who is not eligible to participate in the study?

- Volunteers with a BMI lower than 25
- Volunteers who have received treatment for overweight or obesity in the past three months
- Individuals who have experienced significant weight loss in the past three months
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
- Individuals dealing with eating disorders
