New at Sheba: A space for rehabilitation through music – the first of its kind in Israel

"Music has a way of reaching places of healing words can’t reach"

04-06-2025

This week, the Sheba Integrated Rehabilitation Hospital unveiled the Harmony space, a dedicated area where music creation and performance become an integral part of the physical and emotional recovery journey for soldiers injured in the war.

The Harmony space. An important layer in the recovery journey.

The space was established as a joint initiative by Sheba and the company Simply, which develops apps for learning music and creativity. In this space, patients can explore a variety of musical instruments with the guidance of music therapists and certified teachers. Patients are invited to learn with a teacher or independently using the Simply app, as well as experiment with creating music—either alone or in a group.

"Music has a way of reaching places of healing that words can’t always reach," says Prof. Amitai Ziv, director of the Integrated Rehabilitation Hospital. "This collaboration allows us to add an important therapeutic layer to the rehabilitation journey of patients at Sheba."

The space also includes a memorial corner for Lieutenant Yannai Kaminka, of blessed memory, who fell in defense of the Zikim Base on October 7 and was a musician and creator. "The idea was to create a space where music can hold both the pain, the hope, and the way back – and become an integral part of the rehabilitation process," says Yuval Kaminka, CEO of Simply and Yanai's uncle.
