Sheba turns an underground parking lot into a field hospital during missile attacks

07-08-2025

Sheba Medical Center has opened a fortified underground field hospital on its campus. Drawing on its experience in humanitarian aid in disaster zones like Ukraine, the facility is designed to safeguard patients and medical staff while maintaining full operational continuity during missile attacks.

The field hospital was set up in a protected parking lot at the new food center, using mobile infrastructure and specialized equipment. On June 22, the general neurology and neurovascular stroke departments were relocated to the facility, joining several other departments already operating in protected areas.

Dr. Shachar Shapira, Deputy Director of Ambulatory Care and Director of the Center for Disaster Medicine and Humanitarian Assistance at Sheba Medical Center, stated that the hospital is ready to apply its humanitarian expertise to aid efforts within Israel. "Deploying the hospital in a fortified area allows us to increase the number of protected beds and fulfill our responsibility to patients, even during wartime," he said.
