An "Extreme Sports Day" for patients at the Rehabilitation Center
The Sheba Medical Center, in cooperation with Etgarim, a voluntary society, offer physically challenged patients at the Rehabilitation Center a chance to participate in a day long experience, taking part in extreme sports such as kayaking, bicycle riding, snapling, etc.
The Etgarim staff will be responsible for instructing the participants and will be assisted by rehabilitation staff from the Sheba Rehabilitation Center. About 200 patients will take part in the event, patients undergoing orthopedic or neurological rehabilitation, outpatients, and patients from the Steps Clinic. Activities will include a wide range of extreme sports, such as kayaking, sail boating, bicycling, and sports such as snapling, omega, etc.
The Etgarim voluntary society was founded in 1995 by wounded IDF war veterans, civilian invalids, and leaders from the field of rehabilitation. The goal of the society is the physical, emotional, and social rehabilitation of children and adults utilizing the benefits of extreme sports, and extracurricular sports and camping events.
Participation in these events gives the participants a chance to prove that despite their disability they can still take an active part in sports, much the same as before they were wounded. Meeting this challenge gives them the tools to deal with the realities of everyday life, and encourages them to continued taking part in sports activities after discharge from the Rehabilitation Center.
