Sheba to Participate in the World Stem Cell Summit in Detroit
TEL HASHOMER, ISRAEL, September 21, 2010
Sheba Medical Center researchers will present updates on new insights into basic stem cell biology and regenerative medicine at the 2010 World Stem Cell Summit in Detroit next month.
Dr. Avi Treves, deputy director of the Sheba Cancer Research Center and an associate at the Sheba Center for Regenerative Medicine, Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering, will lecture on October 6 on "Isolation and Enrichment of Regenerative Cells from Non-Mobilized Peripheral Blood." The research he will present was done together with Prof. Arnon Nagler and Dr. Nira Bloom of Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer and with the cooperation of Bio Regenerate Inc.
More than 1,000 people from 30 countries are expected to attend the Stem Cell Summit in Detroit, Oct. 4-6 at the Marriott Renaissance Center. This year's summit will be the sixth annual conference organized by the non-profit Genetics Policy Institute. The conference brings together stem cell scientists, educators, patients and patient advocates, business people and investors, ethicists, policymakers, government representatives and others. More than 150 speakers will be featured.
"Sheba Medical Center is the Israeli leader in stem cell research, and we are glad to be participating in this important scientific and public policy summit," says Sheba Medical Center CEO Prof. Zeev Rotstein.
The Sheba Center for Regenerative Medicine, Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering was founded in 2005 to bring together - scientifically and physically - the premier scientists, investigators, physicians and clinicians in this field at Sheba, and beyond, to form one of the top stem cell research centers in the world. The main focus of the Center is on the use of stem cell biology for regenerative medicine; and as the key to treatments for diseases affecting elderly people, including heart diseases, diabetes, kidney diseases, blood diseases, and cancers. The center is headed by Prof. Jonathan Leor.
