We are all of the same heart - 6 minute film

21-03-2012

The Department of Pediatric & Congenital Cardiothoracic Surgery performs operations on patients with inborn heart defects. The department treats patients with a wide range of complexity.

About 60% of the operations are performed during the neonatal period. The vast majority of patients undergo surgery in childhood, while some undergo surgery over the age of twenty. The Department of Pediatric & Congenital Cardiothoracic Surgery operates as a referral center for children from Israel, the Palestinian Authority, and more recently from Eastern Europe.

Our philosophy is to enable every infant and child to receive the proper surgical treatment-regardless of the cost. Our department is constantly on a rising path, and the volume of patients is growing steadily.

We are committed to putting a great deal of emphasis on the human facet. A multidisciplinary team from Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiology, Pediatric, Anesthesia, and Intensive Care Unit provides around-the-clock care. The team escorts the child and family before, during and following the surgery.

The department's main effort is in making the right diagnosis, followed-up by the best surgical treatment for congenital cardiac defects through the use of state-of-the-art technology. We have become worldwide pioneers in creating operational procedures. We are the only center in the world using minimally invasive techniques, such as, VSD and ASD closure, in congenital cardiac surgery. These operations have a considerable psycho-socio advantage over traditional approaches. In the future, we plan to extend our activities and enable children from remote places around the globe, who suffer from very complicated defects, to take advantage of our knowledge and expertise and receive the best medical treatment we can offer.
