International Study to Revolutionize Cancer Treatment

Dr. Amir Onn, head of pulmonary oncology, and Dr. Raanan Berger, head of the Sheba Cancer Center, are spearheading the Israeli side of an international study to revolutionize cancer treatment through the use of personalized treatment (using drugs that are adapted specifically to each patient, based on the genetic profile of his or her tumor). The international trial, known as WINTHER, will also be conducted at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, the Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, and the Gustave Roussy Institute in Villejuif, France. It will focus on patients with metastatic cancer that cannot be treated with radiation or surgery.
