Tribute to Menashe Kadishman of Blessed Memory

Sheba Medical Center mourns the passing of world-renowned Israeli sculptor and painter, Menashe Kadishman, who passed away on May the 8th after he was hospitalized at his beloved Tel Hashomer hospital. He died at the age of 82.

Since the early age of 15, Kadishman commenced his studies at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv, and in 1954 with the Israeli sculptor Rudi Lehmann in Jerusalem. In 1959, he moved to London for further studies. He remained and worked there till 1972.

Kadishman is most famous for his metallic sculptures and colorful sheep portrait paintings. These instantly recognizable portraits soon became his artistic trademark.

Kadishman artworks are presented in central locations in Israel and around the world, and his paintings can be found in many different galleries.

At Sheba Medical Center, Menashe Kadishman will always be present and remembered by the landmarks he set with his wonderful sculptures he gave to the hospital. His generosity did not stop there because he just couldn't say NO. During the course of the years, he donated quite a few of his famous sheep portraits to Sheba. These were sold at charity auctions in Europe for the benefit of the hospital.
