Shimon Peres Undergoes Successful Emergency Heart Procedure
Peres, 92, undergoes successful heart catheterization after being rushed to hospital
Former Israeli President Shimon Peres underwent a successful heart catheterization procedure on Thursday morning. Peres, 92, is feeling well and is fully conscious. He will remain hospitalized for a few days for observation.
The former president felt chest pains on Thursday morning. His personal physician, Prof. Rafi Walden, was summoned to his home and decided to take him to the Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer. A check showed that Peres underwent a light heart attack related to a blocked artery.
Prof Michael Eldar, the director of the hospital's Heart Institute, said that Peres was quickly taken to the catheterization theater. The blocked artery was swiftly and efficiently opened by Prof. Victor Guetta, head of the Cardiac Catheterization Unit, and that the blood flow to the heart was very good. "There were no signs of atherosclerosis in other blood vessels around the heart" he added.
Walden added at a press update Thursday morning at 10 am that Peres is feeling well.
