Yom Ha'atzmaut 2016

11-05-2016

On the eve of Israel's 68th Day of Independence, preceded by Yom Hazikaron, the Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day, Sheba Medical Center embraces the bereaved patient and staff families who lost their loved ones since the establishment of the State of Israel, declared by David Ben Gurion on May 14, 1948, just 8 hours before the end of the British Mandate in Palestine. Parallel to this historic and life changing event, the Tel Hashomer Hospital was created on the grounds of the British Mandate medical barracks, which later was renamed after the death of its founder, Prof. Chaim Sheba.

Since 68 years, Sheba Medical Center provides services to an ever growing patient population, soldiers and citizens alike, and has become one of the leading centers in the world in many medical fields and serves as Israel's national hospital. We have seen and experienced all the wars, starting with the surrounding Arab states which did not recognize the new state and marched with their troops into the area of the former British Mandate.

May the Almighty provide us with the strength to face and overcome sorrow and grieve and be always able to save the lives of our heroes and cherish the sacrifice of those who could not be saved and didn't return to their families and loved ones.

Chag sameach!
