Festive Opening of The Hasbani – Levi Step Down Unit

08-06-2016

June 1st marked another step towards the completion of Sheba's life-saving project, a project born from our experience during the Protective Edge Operation, when there was dire need for more intensive care beds: The new Surgical Intensive Care Department.

This new department is the center piece, connecting two existing surgical wards. There will be the main 12-room intensive care unit, to be completed soon, and two adjacent 6-bed step-down units are already operational and occupied by surgical patients who no longer need intensive care but still are in need of close observation and monitoring.

The opening ceremony of step-down unit took place in the presence of the donors, Dodi and Diana Hasbani and families, the acting director of the Sheba Medical Center, Prof. Shlomo Noy, and the director of Surgery Department B, Prof. Mordechai Gutman. Amongst the guests were Dodi Hasbani's brother Milo, Head of the Jewish Community in Milan, and Sergio Castelbolognesi, President of KKL in Milan.

After the unveiling of the plaque and a brief introduction by Prof. Gutman, the guests – families and friends from Italy and Israel – moved to the event location where a rich lunch buffet was set up. Besides good and healthy food, they also shared the emotional words of Dodi Hasbani, the welcome words and sincere appreciation of Prof. Noy, as well as Prof. Gutman's explanations about the day by day work of the surgical department in general and the new step-down unit in particular.
