Samaar received the heart of Nili Drakor Sasson:

translated from Y-Net  ( author: Dr. Itai Gal)

“I am so excited to be able to smile again”, Samaar Titi (32) said last Saturday, April 15, 2017.  Samaar Titi, from Kfar Bana in the North, has been in the waiting loop for a heart transplant for the last 10 years. She suffered from cardiac insufficiency and was moved to the top of the heart transplant waiting list because of her young age and medical condition. She received the heart of Nili Drakor Sasson who died under tragic circumstances.

Samaar was cared for by Prof. Dov Freimark, the head of the cardiac insufficiency unit at the "Lev and Olga Leviev Heart Center" at the Sheba Medical Center, after receiving the news that a heart was found for her.

Samaar’s husband, Zahir, said:  “We are at a lack of words to thank the generous family of Nili.” Nili Drakor Sasson's heart, lungs and kidneys were donated and saved five Israeli citizens.

Prof. Jay Lavee, Head of the Heart Transplant Department at Sheba, remembered that he visited Titi last Thursday morning in her room in the ward, and she turned to him with her plea like usual, “When will you find me a heart already?”  Prof. Jay Lavee,”I encouraged her not to give up, and told her not to worry and that we will find her an excellent heart in time for the holiday! It did not occur to me how quickly my prophecy would be fulfilled!"

Prof. Jay Lavee performed the transplant together with Dr. Yigal Kassif : Titi recovered from the transplant at an amazing speed and is already benefiting from the wonderful heart she merited.

Prof. Lavee continues to stress "that it's not a cliché that organ transplants save lives. In every case there is a person and a complete family that has given and been given the gift of life. This specific time it's an Arab mother of three small children. These children, after many difficult years with a sick mother, will have now a young, healthy and functioning mother.  I hope that the number of organ donors and the number of transplants will increase in the future so that we can give life to many, many more patients.
