Professor Harats also serves as the Chairman of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the President of the Bert Strassburger Lipid Center at the Sheba Medical Center

Professor Harats, a world known authority in Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology, is a graduate of the Hadassah Medical School at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Hadassah and Fellowship in Pulmonary and Molecular Biology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

Over the last 25 years Professor Harats has been involved in cutting edge research in Lipid Metabolism, Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology. He is one of the pioneers in the study of the role of the Immune System in Atherosclerosis and invented new genetic tools for treatment of Angiogenesis, a process that plays a major role in Cancer and Cardiovascular Disorders.

For over 25 years Professor Harats has served as an entrepreneur and a consultant specializing in Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical healthcare companies.

His research has been published in more than 180 peer-reviewed papers and chapters in books, and has been awarded numerous prizes and grants in the field of Atherosclerosis and Cancer.

Prof. Harats is a faculty member at the Sackler School of Medicine at the Tel Aviv University and a supervisor of many graduate and undergraduate students in his lab.
