October Greeting from Yoel Har-Even
Dear friends,
During the past decade, we have witnessed many changes in the field of cancer treatment. Personalized medicine and immunotherapy have begun to be developed, replacing the aggressive chemotherapy treatments, which were once given to all patients. The field of personalized genomics also allows for treatments to be designed for the mechanisms of the particular type of cancer that is being treated. Immunotherapy in turn, activates a patient’s own immune system to attack cancer cells.
Sheba is at the forefront of medical research, and the development of new treatments and clinical practices. The Sheba Cancer Center and Oncological Clinical Research Unit are in the midst of many groundbreaking studies, making Sheba the foremost center for international cancer research in Israel.
It is our mission to be at the forefront of cancer research, bringing the best practices to a patient’s bedside and implementing them to arrest or cure the disease. We strive to become a magnet for researchers, medical professionals and patients.
Sheba’s leadership in cancer treatment is just one part in our on-going strategy to become ‘the hospital of the future.’ We are striving to be a hospital that invests in prevention as well as treatment, as well as a source for technological and clinical innovation. We aim to anticipate future medical challenges.
We are currently at the beginning of a large-scale project to establish a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with more intensive care beds for premature infants and midwives specializing in high-risk pregnancies.
This past month, the Friends of Sheba L.A. Gala Event was dedicated to the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Sheba’s long-time, cordial relationship with our international friends has been extremely beneficial. It is always heartwarming to experience the warmth shared by our international supporters, who allow us to reach the highest standards in medical care.
Thank you for being part of this incredible journey,
Yoel Har-Even
