SCI-PAIN-Neuromodulation of the pain inhibitory pathways: an fMRI and psychophysical study of the mechanism of central pain after spinal cord injury
Description: Chronic pain is a major problem for individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI); affecting over 50% of the individuals. Despite its clinical significance, the pathophysiology of the chronic pain following SCI remains largely unknown. We aim to elucidate the neural underpinnings of the phenomenon, by conducting an MRI study comparing brain structure and function between SCI patients with chronic pain, SCI patients without chronic and healthy controls.
