Women interested in lactation consultation are invited to leave a request on the maternity department schedule board

Breastfeeding is the most natural and personalized way to nourish infants. The Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization recommend exclusive breastfeeding for at least six months, and ideally up to a year or longer.

To support both breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding mothers, Sheba Medical Center established a comprehensive breastfeeding support system in 2013. Our dedicated breastfeeding consultants are available seven days a week to provide group and individual guidance on various topics, including the benefits of breast milk, breastfeeding technique, proper management, milk expression, and prevention of difficulties. This system operates in our maternity departments, neonatal department, Sheba Baby Hotel, and outpatient clinics. We also offer consultations to breastfeeding women in other hospital departments when needed.

Sheba Medical Center was the first hospital in Israel to offer breastfeeding consultation services, starting back in 1999. Today, we continue to lead the field as the only hospital with an independent breastfeeding support system. Certified breastfeeding consultants, who have completed a basic course in breastfeeding counseling from the Ministry of Health, are part of the Sheba breastfeeding consultants team. Their excellence was recognized with the "Excellent Nursing Team" prize by the Ministry of Health.

The breastfeeding system is also a valuable clinical field for students attending breastfeeding counseling courses and provides practical experience as part of their studies.
