The Chest and Lung Imaging Unit is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging devices and digital reflection imaging[1] . All images are digital. It also has two advanced computed tomography (CT) devices with 64 slices from GE and Philips, as well as two MRI devices. All images are securely stored in a digital archive (PACS), facilitating the long-term storage and backup of imaging tests for each subject. This eliminates the need for individuals to keep physical copies of photos or CDs at home. Whenever a subject visits the imaging institute, any doctor can easily compare current tests and photographs with previous ones.

Unit services:
You can access the unit's services by getting in touch with the Pulmonary Clinic or the Thoracic Surgery Clinic at Tel Hashomer. Please note that it's best to reach out to them instead of directly contacting the imaging unit.

Our services:

  • Chest photographs - in a standing or lying down position.
  • Chest X-ray (to clarify the location of health findings or in the case of a paralyzed diaphragm, and more).
  • Performing a bronchoscopy examination at assessing biopsies under reflection.[2]
  • Performing low dose CT screening tests for the early detection of lung cancer in smokers. A referral for this test can be obtained through a pulmonary clinic.
  •  Performing regular CT scans to diagnose various lung diseases, for follow-up or post-injury examinations.
  •  Performing a CT Angiography (CTA) - a regular CT scan with administration of an intravenous contrast agent, to diagnose conditions such as pulmonary embolisms, congenital anomalies of the lungs and large blood vessels, intrapulmonary hypertension, and diseases of the thoracic aorta.
  • High Resolution CT - a regular scan in a special protocol for diagnosing diseases of the small lung passages, the bronchi (such as bronchiectasis) and diseases of the lung tissue (interstitial diseases).
  • Performing CT tests with three-dimensional reconstructions and visualization of airways and blood vessels to diagnose narrowing in the tube and large airways, as well as the presence of a foreign body or a tumor.
  • Performing biopsies under CT examinations to diagnose findings in the chest.
  • Weekly multidisciplinary meetings with the participation of pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, oncologists and pathologists. Any case with an unclear diagnosis is discussed jointly by all the doctors before determining the optimal treatment.
  • Weekly meetings with pulmonologists and discussion of the cases from the outpatient clinics.
  • Weekly meetings with a lung doctor on cases that require clarification.

As part of the unit, investigations are conducted in cases of congenital chest diseases or adult health, acute and chronic infectious diseases, and various interstitial diseases

Inquiries are made for diseases and growths in the mediastinum or in the pleural space, as well as tests for the detection of blood clots in the main pulmonary arteries.

Special emphasis is placed on detecting tumors in the lungs, grading them (STAGING) and monitoring treatments or surgeries.

Academic activity:
The unit actively engages in the training and instruction of medical students, interns, and those on rotation. Additionally, it conducts academic research in the field of chest imaging and chemotherapy treatments for patients with lung cancer.
