Exercise Physiology Lab

Some medical conditions can limit physical activity, which can result in a decrease in fitness levels. The laboratory provides a reliable method to accurately assess physical fitness levels. If the fitness level is low, it may indicate the underlying causes or diseases responsible for the impairment. It is crucial to evaluate each individual's capacity for oxygen utilization, known as maximum oxygen uptake. This metric serves as the most effective measure for evaluating physical fitness.

The person being tested is set up with a bicycle and breathes through a mask and mouthpiece, allowing us to measure air and oxygen flow. This test is for patients, athletes, and even those who are simply interested in safe and effective physical training. It helps us measure physical fitness (maximum oxygen uptake and anaerobic threshold), assess disability (National Insurance), determine the right training level for each person, and identify the cause of breathing issues during exercise.
