Prof. Sternik graduated from a Cardiac Surgery Residency at Sheba Medical Center, Israel 1992-1999. He then completed a Clinical Fellowship in Cardiac Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota between 1999 and 2001. Since 2001 Prof. Sternik has been a consultant cardiac surgeon in the Sheba Medical Center. From 2008 he has held the position of Deputy Director of the Department of Cardiac Surgery. In January 2018 Prof. Sternik was appointed Director of Cardiac Surgery Department in Sheba. In 2020 he was elected as a Chairman of Israeli Society of Cardiac Surgery.
Prof. Sternik has authored over 110 peer reviewed articles in leading medical journals and is an editorial reviewer of JTCVS - a leading scientific journal in Cardiac Surgery as well as other journals. His special areas of interest include advanced valvular surgery and atrial fibrillation surgery. Prof. Sternik is an Associated Professor of Surgery in Tel-Aviv University. He established Atrial Fibrillation Surgery Unit at Sheba Medical Center. This Unit is the forerunner in atrial fibrillation surgery in Israel as well as a learning center for European surgeons in the field of atrial fibrillation.
