Tel Aviv University School of Physiotherapy

The School of Physiotherapy was founded in 1976 as a joint project of the Ministry of Health and AJDC.  The two main objectives were to create a new school with an academic curriculum and a community orientation. The Sheba Medical Center was chosen as the appropriate venue because the high standard of its numerous medical departments and rehabilitation centers would be suitable for the clinical education of the students.  A four-year program, broadly based on the medical and social sciences, was established, and since 1981 the graduates are awarded a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from Tel Aviv University.  Concurrently, the community aspect of the curriculum was developed, and special courses are given.

The goal of the School is to graduate therapists who are considered professionals of high standing according to the standards in Israel as well as in the international community. The studies are divided between the University and the School with most of the frontal lectures given at the University and the clinical courses given at the School. Every student is obligated to complete 1000 hours of clinical affiliations. The staff of the School has the academic freedom to determine the program and supervision of the clinical work.

The School is located in the rehabilitation center at Sheba Medical Center. The location of the School gives the students the opportunity to have closer contact with patients and staff. The students have one-third of their clinical affiliations in the Sheba Medical Center. The remaining clinical practice is in various physical therapy departments in other parts of the country.

Each year sixty students graduate from the School and they have integrated into every specialty in physical therapy in all parts of the country.
