Position: Principal Investigator
Areas of Expertise: Metabolism, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Transcription
Research Interests:
We study the regulation of metabolism in response to environmental cues such as changes in nutrition, exercise or cold exposure. We focus on transcriptional networks that control metabolic pathways and on the dysregulation of those networks in conditions such as obesity and diabetes. Projects in the lab include:
- Glycation, the process of glucose modification of proteins, is increased in diabetes causing many of its known outcomes. We investigate how glycation levels are regulated and how such regulation is compromised in obesity.
- Cells communicate with each other via vesicles known as exosomes, delivering proteins and RNAs from one cell to another and controlling key pathways. We study how feeding and fasting control cell-cell communication and how this process is dysfunctioning in obesity and diabetes.
