The Infectious Diseases Research Laboratory (Gal-Mor lab) is located at the vibrant Sheba Medical Center Campus and is affiliated with the Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences, Tel Aviv University. Ohad Gal-Mor is an Associate Professor at the Department of Clinical Microbiology and Immunology and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. students belong to the School of Graduate Studies.

Our research addresses fundamental questions in the microbiology and infectious diseases fields, while using the bacterial pathogen Salmonella enterica as a useful and highly relevant model. Our overall goals are to better understand, on the mechanistic level, how pathogens cause diseases and develop creative novel approaches to deal with burning clinical challenges, such as the antibiotic resistance pandemic and bacterial outbreaks.

Research Interests:

1.    Why do genetically-similar Salmonella serovars, which belong to the same species cause different diseases in humans?
2.    Virulence regulation in Salmonella and its response to environmental signals.
3.    The role of mobile genetic elements in the epidemiology and pathogenicity of emerging Salmonella strains.
4.    The biology of persistent Salmonella infections.
5.     Understanding the mechanisms that shape Salmonella host-specificity.
