Research Interests
Utilizing large datasets to provide neuromuscular disease insights to inform diagnosis prior to major clinical symptomatology, and especially for nerve conductions in early identification of myopathy, neuropathy, neuromuscular junction disease. Also, using large data for early treatment response in various immune modulating therapies and possibly gene knock down and replacement therapies in the future.
We are currently using modeling software that we created to calculate the likelihood of diagnosis of immune mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM) (http://imnm.info). While at Mayo clinic I combined my knowledge of programing and neuromuscular training to extract large data from UDP servers. I was able to pull all cancer diagnoses, imaging testing, striational, and acetylcholine receptor antibody results over decades to demonstrate conclusive evidence that striational antibodies are not helpful in clinical practice to either predict myasthenia gravis or underlying cancer; this improved the neuroimmunology testing algorithm.
I have an ongoing interest in big data, artificial intelligence, and translational discovery of biomarkers in neurology. My long-term goal is to apply deep learning and big data for the understanding, early diagnosis and effective therapy of neuromuscular diseases
