The Gastroenterology laboratory performs various diagnostic tests across a variety of fields that help diagnose digestive tract diseases, liver diseases, and various disorders of the digestive system, as well as follow-up tests for these diseases.

The laboratory has been certified in the areas of jaundice testing and monitoring for biological drugs used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases since 2013.

The laboratory is recognized as a leading facility in this field in Israel and worldwide.

The laboratory is actively engaged in researching and developing new tests, as well as investigating the impact of different drugs on patients with digestive system diseases. It stands at the forefront of these diagnostic procedures, working closely and in collaboration with research doctors from Sheba's Institute of Gastroenterology.

Research areas

Mechanisms of tissue damage in chronic inflammation and ulcerative colitis of the colon, using cells from intestinal tissue and peripheral blood.

The mechanisms of drug treatment in Crohn's disease. Testing the mechanisms of different drugs at different levels along the entire chain of drug activity, ranging from molecular to cellular. The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of the novel therapeutic mechanisms in these diseases.
Development of tests for assessing levels of innovative drugs administered for inflammatory bowel diseases and the corresponding antibodies produced in recipients.
The effect of concurrent infectious diseases in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) on the development of infection-associated cancer.

Investigation into the factors contributing to the formation of drug antibodies.

Investigation into the triggers of Crohn's disease.

Investigating the mechanism of tumor development in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and the effect of various drugs adminstered for this disease on their development in patients.

The role of T cells in disease mechanisms of the gastrointestinal mucosa.
