Sheba Joins Newsweek Top 10 Smart Hospital List

Sheba climbs global rankings with cutting-edge AI-driven healthcare solutions and nearly $1 billion in HealthTech exits

19-09-2024

We are proud to announce that Sheba Medical Center has been recognized as one of the top 10 smart hospitals globally in the latest rankings by Newsweek and Statista. Sheba jumped up three places from 2023 to break into the prestigious top 10 list for the very first time.

In 2024, Sheba cemented itself as a global frontrunner in medical technology and innovation, incubating numerous startups that have collectively achieved nearly $1 billion in successful exits. These companies, which started their journeys at Sheba, are now contributing to advancements in healthcare worldwide. This award is especially significant given Israel's ongoing war, highlighting our dedication to providing world-class healthcare and pioneering healthtech solutions.

Sheba is honored to be the first hospital in Israel to reach the top 10 of Newsweek’s Smart Hospitals ranking, standing alongside world-renowned institutions such as Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Mount Sinai Hospital. This year’s ranking focused on the adoption of digital tools like AI, robotics, telemedicine, and digital imaging, and considered the achievements of hospitals from over 30 countries.

The driving force behind Sheba’s technological innovation is ARC (Accelerate, Redesign, Collaborate), a cutting-edge platform that accelerates breakthroughs in healthcare technology by fostering collaboration between doctors, researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors from across the globe. Sheba’s ambition is to become a fully AI-driven hospital and ARC is making this a reality by integrating artificial intelligence across Sheba. Today, AI is helping to enhance clinical workflows, improving diagnostic accuracy, and enabling more personalized treatment plans.

Director of ARC, Prof. Eyal Zimlichman, explained: “In recent years, we’ve seen a significant leap in the medical field, particularly in technologies and medical devices, which have set a new standard for advanced care. At Sheba’s ARC, we identify needs and innovations through collaboration between entrepreneurs and clinicians, transforming them into cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, and digitization, all aimed at delivering better and more efficient healthcare.”

According to Director General of Sheba Medical Center, Prof. Yitshak Kreiss: “The entrepreneurial and innovative DNA that drives nearly $1 billion in tech exits is also what makes Sheba one of the smartest hospitals in the world. We are not far from the day when Israel’s next healthcare unicorn will emerge from our system. If we don’t break the mindset that sees healthcare as a financial burden and start viewing it as a fruitful investment, we will not only lose valuable personnel but also miss a golden opportunity to turn the health system into a major growth engine for the entire economy.”
