The clinic dedicated to treating congenital heart defects in adults provides specialized care and monitoring for adult patients who were born with a heart defect. What sets this population apart is the combination of congenital heart disease and the treatments associated with it, together with other conditions that characterize older age, such as pregnancy, hypertension, diabetes and more. The clinic staff simultaneously manages the congenital heart disease and the other health conditions that can affect the heart.
The clinic also treats special populations, including:
- Pregnant women - we now understand that pregnancy is generally safe for the majority of women with congenital heart defects, with only a few exceptional cases where caution is advised. Every woman with a congenital heart defect should be regularly monitored during pregnancy. Usually, one test is performed every trimester, followed by another one a few weeks after birth.
- Patients with pulmonary hypertension
- Patients treated for a Fontan-type repair
- Patients with Eisenmenger syndrome
- Patients with congenital heart defects accompanied by rhythm and conduction disorders.
What can I expect at the clinic?

Emphasis is placed on providing detailed explanations of the condition and past interventions, as well as developing a personalized treatment plan. The approach is a team effort, involving the patient, their family, and the physician, all actively participating in the treatment and care of the patient.
