The thoracic surgery department at Sheba has a team of senior staff who operate on patients of all ages, treating a wide range of thoracic diseases, including malignant tumors. Our department’s surgical team possesses the highest cumulative clinical experience in Israel across various chest surgeries, encompassing lung, esophagus, chest wall, and chest cavity procedures (including the heart, aorta, trachea, esophagus, and thymus gland). The medical and nursing staff within the department ensures the delivery of optimal and professional medical care, while treating each patient with respect and providing a sense of security.
Our department perform more than 550 chest surgeries each year. These surgeries range from tumor removal (primary or metastases) and correction of birth defects to organ transplants and treatment of conditions like spontaneous pneumothorax and excessive sweating of the palms and armpits (sympathectomy). We also conduct diagnostic surgeries such as mediastinoscopy and diagnostic thoracoscopy. All surgeries are carried out using the latest equipment and advanced technologies, with a focus on minimally invasive methods using videoscopic or robotic equipment.
Some surgeries may require additional treatments like chemotherapy and radiation. In such cases, our department's staff collaborates closely with specialist doctors in the fields of oncology, radiotherapy, and pathology. We also work closely with the Imaging Institute, the Cancer Center, the Institute for Gastrointestinal Diseases, the Institute for Lung Diseases, and the inpatient wards.
