Angina pectoris is a syndrome that can cause pain, pressure, and discomfort in the chest. It may also lead to shortness of breath and sweating, and sometimes the pain can radiate to the shoulders, arms, and jaw. The primary cause of the syndrome is the narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries (which carry oxygenated blood to the heart muscle), resulting from atherosclerosis (their blockage with sclerotic plaques).

Roughly 15% of patients with angina don't respond to conventional treatments like drugs, catheterization, or bypass surgery. According to Prof. Hanoch Hood, the head of the ECPT Angina Clinic, “As the population gets older, we're seeing more patients with treatment-resistant angina. It's crucial we find a solution for them.”

To help prevent or alleviate the symptoms experienced by these patients, we've developed unique and innovative treatment methods. One such method is Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP/ECPT), which is performed at our ECPT angina clinic at the Heart Center.
