In the clinic for assessing endothelial function, we help identify patients at risk for atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. The main factors contributing to these conditions are excess weight, lack of physical activity, diabetes, smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, and a family history of heart disease. These factors lead to the accumulation of fats in the arteries or damage to the wall of the arteries - the endothelium - allowing fats, waste materials, and inflammatory cells to penetrate it easily. As a result, the arteries become narrowed or blocked, increasing the risk of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease.
Our patients undergo tests to assess the health of the endothelium. When needed, they receive advice from a senior cardiologist regarding the risk factors for atherosclerosis and heart disease, along with friendly guidance on how to reduce them.
