Urogynecology addresses issues related to urinary leakage, prolapse of the pelvic organs (uterus, bladder, vaginal walls), and other conditions affecting the lower urinary system in women.
The cause of these issues lies in the function of the pelvic floor, often occurring after childbirth. However, older women may experience similar problems, regardless of their birthing process.
Our unit conducts a thorough investigation of the issues, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools such as urodynamics, cystoscopy, and 3D ultrasound. Specialized counselling is provided to women who have experienced pelvic floor damage during previous births, including tears in the anus or vagina sphincter.
A range of rehabilitative, medicinal and surgical treatments allow us to provide a comprehensive solution to most problems.
What is the pelvic floor?
The pelvic floor refers to the lowermost region of the pelvis, comprised of the pelvic bones, muscles, and connective tissue. Within the pelvic floor pass the vagina, urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder), and anus. The muscles of the pelvic floor operate as a cohesive unit and play a vital role in sphincter function.
