At the haematology-oncology day hospital, between 70 and 140 children receive treatment every day. We perform a wide range of medical procedures that do not require hospitalization, such as blood tests, blood products administration, supportive care, as well as chemotherapy, biological and immunotherapy treatments. The treatments are tailored to individual patients and rely on cutting-edge genetic tests (such as tests for identifying mutations).
Our hospitalization team continues to broaden the range of outpatient services on offer, with the purpose of maintaining the daily routines of patients and their families and preventing unnecessary hospital stays. Our hospital nurses collaborate closely with doctors, many of whom have foundational training in oncology, and are skilled in delivering intricate treatments.
The hospital space is divided into wings with beds and treatment chairs, featuring two isolation rooms and designated areas for medical procedures. Each wing is overseen by a dedicated nurse responsible for providing care and service to patients.
The designated rooms, which include anesthesia and recovery rooms, are designed to create a pain-free treatment environment for children. Anesthesia is administered by pediatric anesthesiologists, while nurses take care of the children until they recover after the operation. Furthermore, a stem cell collection unit is available for bone marrow transplantation. This unit is overseen by a nurse and a technician, under the guidance of a qualified doctor specialising in transplants. The unit recently received recognition from the JACIE organization, the sole official certification body in Europe responsible for the field of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cell therapy.
