The Hematology Laboratory consists of several units that focus on a wide array of hematological issues, mainly hemato-oncology and bone marrow transplants.
The laboratory staff is skilled and professional, continuously monitoring updates on innovations in various fields through dedicated seminars in Israel and abroad.

The Hematology Laboratory operates innovative technological equipment and devices for various tests intended for diagnosing, treating and monitoring patients hospitalized at the center and external clients. The advanced equipment also provides a strong foundation for research and development of diagnostic and treatment methods in Israel and around the world.

The laboratory is certified by the Israel Laboratory Accreditation Authority and the Stem Cell Processing Unit is accredited by JACIE.

Laboratory Units

Cell Specification
Testing cell markers for diagnosing leukemias, various lymphomas and MRD (Minimal Residual Disease), both in AML and ALL, based on European therapy protocols. In addition, the lab routinely conducts tests to diagnose Primary Immunodeficiency diseases and immunological tests including HIV patient follow up. The unit also performs morphology and cytomorphology tests and blood and bone marrow smears.

Classic and Molecular Cytogenetics
Diagnosing and monitoring hematological diseases through classic (karyotype) and molecular (FISH) cytogenics, and a combination of morphology and cytogenics (BioView) for multiple myeloma.

Molecular Hematology
Qualitative Fragment Analysis and quantitative Real-Time PCR testing, determining disease mutations, such as chronic myeloid leukemia in BCR/ABL, acute leukemias (FLT3) and myeloproliferative diseases (JAK2).
Molecular MRD follow up for AML and CML. Sanger and next-generation sequencing (NGS) for a myeloid panel of 54 genes and gene arrangements on receptors B and T.

Processing Stem Cells
Storing and processing bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cells.  The lab is the main processing lab for the Ezer MiZion donor registry and is certified by the JACIE international organization for cellular therapy.
The lab performs the following procedures:
α/β TCR depletion, CD34 enrichment, CD56 enrichment, Anti-viral Cytokine Capture System Mesenchymal cell growth for therapeutic research of GvHD.

Immuno-Hematology
Specifying and quantifying various immunoglobulins and proteins, Free Light chain (FLC), Bence-Jones, using a nephelometer and immunofixation. In addition, the lab performs hemoglobin electrophoresis and osmotic fragility tests to identify and monitor various autoimmune diseases.
