The IVF Fertility Center at Sheba is proud to be the first of its kind in Israel. Since its establishment in the early 1980s, we have witnessed incredible milestones, including the birth of the first test-tube baby in Israel within our framework in September 1982. In doing so, Israel became the fifth country in the world to successfully give birth to a test-tube baby. Since then, the center at Sheba has emerged as one of the leading and most advanced institutions in Israel and around the world.
In 2005, the IVF Fertility Center accomplished a groundbreaking achievement by successfully achieving the world's first pregnancy using ovarian tissue cryopreservation. The Center is renowned in Israel and across the globe for its outstanding innovation, exceptional medical care, and groundbreaking research, which have paved the way for numerous remarkable accomplishments. Our nursing staff in Israel is known for their professionalism, skill, and is at the forefront of fertility training.
At Sheba, our remarkable accomplishments go hand in hand with an unwavering commitment to safety. The IVF Fertility Center employs the RI Witness system, which performs dual computerized identification of the patient. This unique system - the only one of its kind in Israel, identifies and monitors every activity that takes place in the laboratory. In parallel, we also perform human identification. This dual identification process ensures accuracy and prevents any human errors that may occur during sample transfer, egg extraction, sperm treatment, freezing, thawing, and the subsequent return of embryos to the uterus.
The IVF Fertility Center is also a leader in the field of quality control and employs a computerized system to monitor test results, treatment progress, and success rates.
Areas of activity of the center
- IVF - In vitro fertilization.
- Diagnosis and treatment of all fertility issues - hormonal problems, uterine and fallopian tube defects, sperm quality issues, and unexplained infertility.
- Advanced treatment methods: micromanipulation (ICSI), Laser Assisted Hatching (AHA), embryo biopsy, blastocyst growth, ultrasound-guided embryo retrieval and ZIFT, vitrification for egg and embryo freezing, and more.
- Invasive treatments for conditions related to infertility, such as hysteroscopy and laparoscopy for example: tubal blockage (hydrosalpings), uterine myoma polyps, dysmorphic uterus, ovarian cysts.
- Pre-gestational genetic diagnosis (PGD) of embryos prior to their transfer into the womb, in collaboration with the Genetic Institute.
- Treatment of all sperm problems (in collaboration with the male fertility unit) - sperm extraction from the vas deferens, surgeries to remove sperm from the testicles, electrical stimulation for sperm ejection.
- Preserving fertility in women with cancer - by freezing sections of ovaries, eggs, and embryos.
- Support groups - to help alleviate the stress and emotional burden associated with infertility and its treatment.
Research Projects
Our Center is involved in research on new drugs, both on an international scale and in biological, genetic, laboratory techniques, and more. All of this is aimed at advancing treatment effectiveness and improving success rates.
