Our clinic specializes in early diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients with lupus and anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome. In Israel, there are approximately 2,000 individuals living with lupus, the majority being women. This disease occurs when the immune system becomes overactive, losing its ability to differentiate between self and stranger. The result: the immune system attacks various body tissues and affects many organs, such as the skin, joints, kidneys, and central nervous system.
Anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) is distinguished by a propensity to form blood clots in both the veins and arteries. Individuals suffering from this syndrome may experience clinical manifestations like recurrent miscarriages, thrombotic events, and thromboembolic embolisms such as heart attacks, strokes, and deep vein blood clots. The presence of anti-cardiolipin antibodies is a defining feature. APS can occur as an independent disease or in conjunction with lupus, affecting approximately 40% of lupus patients.
Early diagnosis and proper treatment can reduce the degree of irreversible damage caused by these diseases.
