Neuro-Oncology rehabilitation is intended for people whose nervous system has been damaged as a result of cancer. Damage to the nervous system from cancer may result from the disease itself or from its treatment, but the result is similar: the patient's functioning and quality of life are severely affected.
Our service is built on a multidisciplinary and comprehensive rehabilitation approach. If needed, we bring together expert consultants from different fields - including neurosurgery, orthopedics, pain relief, and wound care - to provide patients with the best care possible.
Patients receive a personalized treatment plan aimed at helping them regain physical strength and endurance, promoting independence, and equipping them with psychological tools to resume optimal social, occupational, and family functioning.
How is treatment provided?
Treatment is provided in two frameworks:
Clinic - neuro-oncology patients visit the clinic for a rehabilitation assessment in preparation for their integration into a rehabilitation program.
Day Hospitalization for Rehabilitation - Following a referral, patients undergo a thorough three-day evaluation conducted by a multidisciplinary team. This evaluation aims to diagnose the medical and rehabilitation issues that require a tailored response. The team formulates a personalized treatment plan that is implemented over a period of 4-6 intensive weeks. Patients attend morning sessions 2-3 times a week, receiving individual treatment for 3-4 hours per session.
The treatment plan emphasizes the following areas:
1. Muscle weakness and problems with muscle tone and control
2. Sensory problems
3. Cognitive difficulties, such as problems with memory and attention
4. Language and speech difficulties
5. Sphincter function problems
6. Sexual function
7. Mental and behavioral issues
8. Challenges in daily activities such as walking, dressing, and using the toilet and shower
9. Adaptation of auxiliary equipment necessary for functioning, such as walking aids, wheelchairs, cranes and more
10. Training caregivers and family members
